NFL Power Rankings for Week 1

How do you think the Detroit Lions Det Lionsfare in the NFL Power Rankings before any Regular Season games have been played? I did some snooping around and found out that the Lions are about the same Ranking by all the entities that do NFL Power Rankings. Here is a sampling of what the NFL Power Rankings gurus think of the Lions.

Fox Sports writer Peter Schrager Rated the Lions 24th. He had some complimentary things to say about the offense especially the receiving trio that he thinks could be the best in the league.

  • McCown to Start for Raiders – Sources

Josh McCown, ex-Detroit Lion QB, has reportedly been picked by Oakland Raider coach Lane Kiffin to start at quarterback when the Detroit Lions face the Raiders in the NFL Kickoff weekend matchup.

Coach Lane Kiffin didn’t make the announcement, but a person close to McCown and another person with knowledge of the situation confirmed that McCown received the nod over Daunte Culpepper.

“I don’t have any information for you on that,” Kiffin said. “Obviously, I know, but . . .”

Kiffin cited Sunday’s opponent as part of the reason for his secrecy. By holding off, he reasoned, the Lions must prepare for both Culpepper and McCown.

Detroit Lions Prepare for NFL Kickoff Weekend

Lions are finally in a Regular Season routine and are focusing on preparing for the NFL Kickoff Weekend game in Oakland against the Raiders on Sunday at 4:00 Eastern. Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger once again has high hopes for a successful campaign for the Gridiron Heroes from Motown.

Lions Coach Rod MarinelliCoach Rod Marinelli has discussed wanting a roster made up of players who have ‘football’ character. I can only hope that the changes the Lions have made since last season has rid the team of its ‘characters’ and brought in play-makers that will help the Lions get back to a team that is not the ‘Homecoming’ team for all the other teams on the schedule. Everything you read and hear about Marinelli from ex-players from his years as an assistant coach at Tampa Bay is all positive.
