Detroit Lions 3-2 vs Tampa Bay Bucs 4-2

Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger is hoping that this game is the beginning to becoming a Quality NFL Team for the Detroit Lions. The Lions will be at home after a disasterious road trip to Washington two weeks ago. Tampa Bay is a little beat up and is struggling with their running game with ‘Cadillac’ Williams and Mike Alstott out for the season and Michael Pittman out for a few weeks. The Bucs traded for RB Michael Bennett on Tuesday and he should see some action against the Lions. Detroit probably will be re-invigorated after Coach Rod Marinelli gave the team 5 days off during the bye week. Reports out of practice this week so far have been positive. Reports are that RB Kevin Jones with start and WR Calvin Johnson is back to good health after the bye week. In fact neither Jones or Johnson are on the Injury Report put out by the Lions. If the Lions can win then, the confidence returns to the players and who knows how the rest of the season will turn out. But, if they lose, it is probable the doubts will return and the schedule looks daunting from here on out. Seems like I say the same thing each game for the Lions, ‘this is a must win’. So much so that I am probably just crying wolf but it does me good to feel like the Lions have a must win game. Ex-Lion QB Jeff Garcia brings the Bucs to Ford Field looking to keep them in 1st Place in the NFC South and move them to 5-2. Jeff had a few things to say about his time with the Lions in 2005, and maybe things would have been different if he had been injured in the last pre-season game, during a Conference Call on Wednesday:

  • Tampa Bay acquires RB Michael Bennett

RB Michael Bennett was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday for an undisclosed draft choice. The Buccaneers needed help at the running back position as a result of recent injuries to ‘Cadillac’ Williams and Michael Pittman. Bennett was a Pro-Bowl selection in 2002 as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. Expect to see Bennett in action against the Lions on Sunday.

NFL Week 5 Detroit Lions vs Washington Redskins – Recap

  • NFL Week 5 Detroit Lions vs Washington Redskins – Recap

Complete domination by the Washington Redskins is the only way to recap the game. Washington wins 34-3 and could have had more points but for a turnover on the Lions 10 in the 3rd quarter. Here is what Lion Coach Rod Marinelli thought of the performance:

“The defense has got to stop them, and then the offense has to get first downs,” Marinelli said. “We were terrible on both sides of the ball in terms of third down. It’s tough to win if you’re not getting off the field on third down and if you’re not (converting) third downs.”
