Detroit Lions 5-2 after 16-7 defeat of Chicago Bears

  • Detroit Lions win on Road in Chicago against Bears 16-7

Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger was thankfully wrong with the prediction that the Lions would get routed by the Bears. Laugh is on me as the Lions won for the 2nd time this season on the road. In the preview post I said I thought the only hope was for the Lions to get RB Kevin Jones running the ball effectively to open up the passing game. QB Jon Kitna ended up 268 yards passing and Jones had 105 yards rushing. Chicago did have many opportunities to score more than the 1 TD they ended up with but QB Brian Griese threw 4 interceptions. Three of the interceptions were in the Lions endzone. Detroit won the turnover battle 4-1 which of course usually means you win in the NFL.

Detroit Lions 4-2 after Beating Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-16

    • Detroit Lions win 23-16 over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to move to 4-2

The Detroit Lions escaped Ford Field with a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-16. The Bucs assisted the Lions with the win by providing 2 crucial turnovers deep in the Lions territory. Detroit got its running game going yesterday much more than they have all season with 147 yards on the ground. Kevin JonesKevin Jones made his first start of the season and had 76 yards on 15 carries. Jones added 34 yards with 6 pass receptions in his extended action. Tampa Bay dominated the time of possession and outgained Detroit 422 to 278. Coach Rod Marinelli like always feels this is one win and move on to the next game, had this to say:

“The biggest thing, honestly, for me, honestly, I want to get this franchise turned around,” Marinelli said. “And my focus is on that. And my focus is on this team. And we’ve just got to keep finding a way to win a game. And we still have to play better. We’ve got to play better, and when we get that done, I’ll be a happy man.”

Detroit Lions 3-2 vs Tampa Bay Bucs 4-2

Tampa Bay travels to Detroit so the Bucs can take on the Lions at Ford Field.

    • Lions Offense vs Bucs Defense

Detroit’s Offensive Line, with Tackles Jeff Backus and George Foster, must be able to keep QB Jon Kitna from being sacked and rushed when he attempts to pass. Tampa Bay will try and get pressure from DEs Kevin Carter and Greg Spires. The Lions NFL rated Mike FurreyRoy Williams5th Passing Offense, with WRs Roy Willliams, Mike Furrey and Shaun McDonald going up against Tampa Bay’s 8th best pass defense with CB Ronde Barberand S Jermanine Phillips. The Bucs are 7th in the league with interceptions, 2nd in fumbles recovered and 3rd in total Turnovers generated. Detroit’s offense is near the top in both fumbles lost and interceptions and lead the league in having their QB sacked. RB Kevin Jones gets the start and will try and get the Lions horrible rushing game to gain some yards against the not as good as past years Bucs rushing defense. Tampa Bay’s defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will have the Bucs in the Tampa 2 which will give the Lions difficulty if they can not run the ball and protect Kitna. Most likely the Bucs will try and get pressure on with only the 4 defensive lineman and leave 7 back in coverage. This alignment worked very well for both Philadelphia and Washington when they routed Detroit earlier in the season.
