Jim Schwartz has stated publically that the Lions will start Daunte Culpepper in Saturday’s pre-season opener.
Schwartz then stated, “Don’t read anything into it.”
It is likely that this doesn’t mean much. Culpepper, Stafford, and Stanton will probably see the same amount of snaps. Pre-season games are always for evaluation (especially when there is uncertainty at the starting position).
I can tell you, this Lions’ fan is psyched to see what the highest paid rookie in the history of the NFL can do in the second quarter.

I’m interested in seeing what Stafford can do for the Lions, but as an outsider who has admittedly only followed the Lions this off-season through checking out this blog and reading an occasional ESPN article, I have to understand why Daunte is getting the shot, at least for tonight.
You know, I’ve been bitter about Culpepper for several years now, but I think that’s finally starting to wear off.
It sounds like he’s in great shape, and reuniting him with Scott Linehan is probably good for both of them. It’s obvious that Stafford is the future of the Lions, but Culpepper might be able to buy him a little more time before he has to take over.
It still drives me crazy whenever he does with rolling arm thing. If he could get us 1 win I will be happy
