  • Detroit Lions are now 7-8 after beating Kansas City Chiefs 25-20

Detroit Lions hang on to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 25-20 after jumping out to a 19-0 lead in the 2nd Quarter. After Kansas City QB Brody Croyle threw an interception that was returned for a TD by LB Paris Lenon the Detroit Lions led 19-0. Croyle was injured on the TD return and was replaced by Damon Huard. Huard brought the Chiefs back and closed the game to 22-20 early in the 4th Quarter.

Detroit rushed the ball well on the day getting 102 yards on 15 carries with a TD from backup RB T.J. Duckett who filled in for RB Kevin Jones. Jones left the game with an injured knee. Offensive statistics favored the Chiefs. Kansas City had 447 yards compared to Detroit’s 252. The Chiefs had 25 First downs and Detroit could only muster 12. QB Damon Huard found easy pickings against the Lions defensive backs completing 24 of 36 passes for 305 yards and 2 TDs.

The game was not decided until the final play when WR Samie Parker was downed at the Lions 30 after taking a lateral from RB Kolby Smith.

Detroit now goes to Green Bay next Sunday to finish their season with the hope of getting to 8-8. Detroit has already ensured themselves of their best record since 2000 with 7 wins. Also for the 1st time since 2000 the Lions will not have a 10 loss season. With Green Bay locked into the 2nd seed in the NFC playoffs and nothing to play for it is possible the Lions could actually win in Green Bay for the 1st time since 1991. Not likely but possible.
