Detroit Lions 6-6 vs Dallas Cowboys 11-1
Sunday December 9, 2007 @ 1:00 Ford Field
TV: Fox Network with Joe Buck, Troy Aikman and Pam Oliver
Detroit faces a very difficult challenge with the Dallas Cowboys coming to Ford Field. Dallas is led by QB Tony Romo, WR Terrell Owens and RBÂ Julius Jones.
- Detroit Lions Offense vs Dallas Cowboys Defense
Detroit will once again pass the ball early and often probably. The Lions have the worst rushing attack in the NFL and at times abandon the run completely. QB Jon Kitna when he has time in the pocket leads the NFL’s 8th best passing game. Kitna will miss WR Roy Williams out with a knee injury but will still have Calvin Johnson, Mike Furrey and Shaun McDonald. Dallas is ranked 17th defending the pass so Detroit could have some success, but Dallas does put lots of pressure on QBs with 35 sacks this season. Detroit’s offensive line will have to protect Kitna for the Lions to be able to pass the ball. RB Kevin Jones the forgotten man in the Lions offense recently will hopefully get an opportunity to show his ability against the Cowboys 4th ranked rushing defense. If Detroit runs the ball Cowboys will counter with LB Bradie James and he will try to get to Williams and Johnson matched against the young cornerbacks.
- Dallas Cowboys Offense vs Detroit Lions Defense
QB Tony Romo and the Cowboys 2nd ranked passing game will be a big problem for the Lions 31st rated secondary. Romo will have WR Terrell Owens and TE Jason Witten probably open most of the day. Detroit’s secondary has been banged up and the depth is not there. Detroit has only CBs Fernando Bryant and Travis Fischer as the only Cornerbacks with any real game experience trying to stop the Cowboys passing game. Romo has a very good offensive line and has only been sacked 16 times all season. Detroit’s defense mid-way through the season was near the top in generating QB sacks but have fallen off during the 4 game losing streak. It will be hard to get any sacks on Romo. Dallas also has a very good rushing attack led by RBs Julius Jones and Marion Barber. After Detroit gave up so many yards to Minnesota last week Dallas could run the ball against the Lions but do not have to rely on having to rush the ball. Detroit’s Tampa Two defense is predicated on keeping receivers in front of them and not giving up big plays. This seems to have led to QBs having great days with high completion percentages and 2 to 3 hundred yards, not to mention numerous TD passes. Romo hopes that continues against the Lions.
- ‘Lion Eyes’ Blogger’s Thoughts
Detroit most likely will continue its drop to the depths of being an NFL bottom tier team. The Lions defense will not have much luck stopping the Cowboys high powered offense. Detroit has stopped the run much better at home during the season so it is possible that RBÂ Julius Jones will not have a great day. I expect QB Tony Romo will find the passing pretty easy against the Lions secondary. This is the NFL though so it is always possible the Lions could beat the Cowboys but the odds are not good. Dallas will be intent on payback for the Lions going to Dallas last season and beating the Cowboys. QB Jon Kitna’s comments about the Cowboys after that game has been a motivating item according to numerous Cowboys players.Â
- Las Vegas OddsÂ
- Dallas is -11 point Favorite to beat the Lions
