Detroit Lions 6-5 vs Minnesota Vikings 5-6
Sunday December 2, 2007 @ 1:00 Metrodome
TV: Fox Network with Dick Stockton and Brian Baldinger
- Damien Woody to Start at Right Tackle
Damien Woody will start at Right Tackle this Sunday against Minnesota. Woody fills in for Jonathon Scott who was put on Injured Reserve earlier this week because of an injured hamstring. Scott suffered the injury last Thursday in the Green Bay game. Scott was a replacement for T George Foster who suffered from too many False Starts, sacks allowed and missed assignments and was benched by the Lions coaches. Damien Woody has not played Tackle since his High School days. Here is what Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz had to say about Woody playing Tackle this week:
“He’s excited about it. I think that it just really takes advantage of his athleticism. Really it does. He’s got remarkable feet, and he can recover really well. He can be off-balance and recover. He’s got some natural things out there that really kind of show up. In terms of what to do, he plays next to that position all the time, all this year. He’s aware of all the calls. It’s just different being on the edge. It is.”

Woody is excited about playing Tackle as evidenced by these quotes:
“To have never played the position before in the National Football League, that’s a challenge – especially in a loud venue like the Metrodome,” said Woody. “It’s definitely a big challenge but that’s what competitors do, they step up to the plate and when your number is called they just go out there and compete.”
“I’m going to watch as much film as possible and just take as much coaching as possible,” said Woody. “I’m going to lean on some other guys who have played the position before – guys like Jeff (Backus) and George (Foster) and I’m going to get some input from the defensive guys on some things that will help me out during the game.
“This whole week I’m going to be like a sponge just soaking up all of the information I can.”
“I’m sure guys from Minnesota – they get information too and (they see that) this guys’ playing his first start at tackle ever,” said Woody. “I’m sure they’re probably geeked.”

- Coach Brad Rod Marinelli - Hold on to your Seat
Detroit Lion Coach Rod Marinelli told the team that the NFC Playoff race is like a game of Musical Chairs. His point is the Lions have the last seat and not to get up. All the other teams are trying to grab their seat and Detroit just needs to win games to keep the seat. Lion Defensive End Dewayne White had this to say after Marinelli’s message to the team:
“Coach gave a great exam about the playoffs,” defensive end Dewayne White said. “We’re like musical chairs. We’re not circling. We’re sitting down in the seat. We just don’t need to get up. That’s a perfect example.
“Musical chairs — you’ve got everybody standing up waiting for an empty seat. We’ve already got one. We just don’t need to get up out of our seat. We don’t have to do anything but keep our seat. That’s what we’re going to try to do.”

- Your ‘Lion Eyes’ Blogger’s Thoughts
Detroit, after getting a break last weekend when all the Musical Chair chasers of the last seat lost, (e.g. Arizona, Washington and Philadelphia) needs this week’s game against the Vikings. To do what Coach Marinelli says and Hold on to the Seat the Lions essentially have to win each of their remaining 5 games. I have a good feeling about this game but be warned I have many times in the past thought the Lions would win in Minnesota. So many times the Lions play horribly when they go to Minnesota and suffer season crippling losses. Maybe I am just putting too much faith in Coach Marinelli, but I think that somehow they will play better this week than past trips to the Metrodome. That doesn’t mean they will win or that I expect them to win just they won’t play bad. Tomorrow I will have the weekly Saturday Preview of the game and on Sunday all the Predictions. Of course Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger again hopes the Lions prevail and get to 7-5 and hold on to the last NFC Wildcard seat. Next week the Lions come back to Ford Field to play the NFC #1 Playoff Seed Dallas Cowboys.
