  • Fumble was the Right Call - NFL Supervisor of Officials

A play that happened as the Lions were driving early in the 3rd Quarter against Arizona last Sunday hoping to cut the 10 point half time Cardinal lead to 3 points. The Lions had 1st and 10 at the Cardinal 26 on their 1st possession of the half. Offensive coordinator called an end around by WR Shaun McDonald. Arizona LB Karlos Dansby had the play figured out and McDonald was trying to avoid the pursuit and going backward until the LB hit Shaun and brought him down for a 15 yard loss. It appeared on TV replays that McDonald’s forearm and elbow hit the turf causing the ball to come loose. Dansby recovered the ball which was ruled a fumble on the field. Lion Coach Rod Marinelli challenged the ruling and Referee Walt Coleman upheld the call after going under the hood to review the play. Arizona scored in only 5 plays and the potential 3 point game was now a 17 point lead and essentially was over. Mike Pereira Supervisor of NFL Officials said on Tuesday that the play was ruled correctly. Evidently McDonald’s hand with the ball in it hit the ground and the ball was coming loose before his forearm and elbow hit the turf.

  • Tom Coughlin Conference Call Hi-Lights
    • Coughlin is impressed with the Lions 28 takeaways +7 turnover margin and outstanding record at home including extremely good stats at home
    • Views this as a big game with Lions having the same record in the NFC
    • Said WR Plaxico Burress will play; Plaxico has improved each year he has been with the Giants; doing an outstanding job this year especially considering the injury; says a lot about his toughness and willingness to play
    • Views this as a very Important game especially if Giants are able to win then each game as you go on is more important
    • Giants success getting to QB is because they have good players that rush the passer, have a good scheme and they count on both; rely heavily on the pash rush to control opponents passing game
    • Coughlin thought Shaun Rogers is having a heck of a year and is a good football player;  he is impressed that Rogers leads league in fumble recoveries and has an interception.

  •   Your ‘Lion Eyes’ Blogger’s Thoughts about the Important Game

Another make or break game for the Detroiters. The Lions really have to win this game to maintain playoff hopes in the NFC. Of course the same thing can be said about the Giants except for the fact that the Giants have a much easier schedule the remaining of the season than the Lions have. Detroit is 2 games behind the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North and meet the Pack, on Thanksgiving at home, just 4 days after the game with the Giants. Two weeks later the Dallas Cowboys come to Ford Field and by then we should know how much a factor the Lions will be in the NFC playoff race. Let’s hope the Lions go into the Thanksgiving tilt with a 7-3 record and a 1 game lead over the Giants in the Wildcard hunt and the tiebreaker.

  • Lion Roster Moves
    • TE Courtney Anderson waived
    • TE John Owens signed
  • Las Vegas Says
    • New York is now a -3 favorite to beat the Lions with the bettors wagering heavily on the Giants moving the line 2.5 points since Tuesday
