  • NFL Power Rankings for Week 9

The Detroit Lions continued their presence in the Week 9 NFL Power Rankings by the entities that do the Weekly NFL Power Rankings. Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger is providing this NFL Power Rankings post as a regular weekly feature during the NFL Regular Season. I am using the same 5 NFL Power Rankings sites each week. The 5 are:

  1. Fox Sports NFL Power Rankings
  2. ESPN NFL Power Rankings
  3. Cold Hard Football Facts NFL Power Rankings
  4. CBS Sportsline Power Rankings
  5. Peter King Monday Morning QB - SI

Peter Schrager moved the Lions up slightly, just 1 spot to 13th this week from week 8 NFL Power Rankings. Schrager says that the Lions are in the playoff discussion.

Detroit’s in any conversation about the NFC playoff picture. For the first time in what feels like forever, the early Thanksgiving Day game may actually mean something for the home squad.

ESPN NFL Power rankings are developed by ESPN NFL staff writers John Clayton, Len Pasquarelli, Matt Mosley, Jeffri Chadiha and Mike Sando; Scouts Inc. Insider Jeremy Green; and ESPN.com NFL senior editor Mike McAllister.

The ESPN NFL Staff moved the Lions up to 10th this week a rise of 1 spot from 11th in Week 8 NFL Power Rankings. ESPN talks about this is the best start in the Matt Millen era.

Who wants Matt Millen fired now? For the first time in his tenure, the Lions have started out 5-2. They’ve swept the Bears and are 3-0 in the division. But they still must face the Packers twice in the final six weeks.

Jonathon Comey moved the Lions up to 10th in the Week 9 NFL Power Rankings, for an improvement of 2 places. Jon mentions that the Lions are 3-6 all time against the Broncos.

Pete Prisco kept the Lions the same at 10th in the NFL Power Rankings this week no change from Week 8. He goes on to re-iterate that if the Playoffs started today the Lions would be in.

I said last week the Lions would be in the playoffs if they started then. I was wrong. They would be in if they started now. Wow.

King continues to put the Lions in his Fine 15, keeping them 13th this week same as Week 8 Fine 15. King thinks the Lions have replaced the Bears as NFC North contenders:

Detroit (5-2). Lions have now swept the season series with Chicago twice in the last four years. Can you say, “changing of the guard?”

Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger remembers that just 3 weeks ago King said the Lions were ‘Frauds’.

NFL Week 9 will bring the Denver Broncos with 2nd year QB Jay Cutler and his rocket arm  to Ford Field. Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger doesn’t remember the last time the Lions won 3 games in a row, but all of Detroit hopes it happens and the Lions get to 6-2.
