- NFL Power Rankings for Week 8
The Detroit Lions moved up in the Week 8 NFL Power Rankings by the entities that do the Weekly NFL Power Rankings. Detroit moved up an average of 4 and 1/2 spots in the NFL Power Rankings. Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger is providing this NFL Power Rankings post as a regular weekly feature during the NFL Regular Season. I am using the same 5 NFL Power Rankings sites each week. The 5 are:
- Fox Sports NFL Power Rankings
- ESPN NFL Power Rankings
- Cold Hard Football Facts NFL Power Rankings
- CBS Sportsline Power Rankings
- Peter King Monday Morning QB - SI

Peter Schrager moved the Lions up 4 spots to 14th this week from week 7 NFL Power Rankings. Schrager gives some kind words for Coach Rod Marinelli’s game plan vs the Buccaneers but wonders if they are heading for trouble in the Windy Cindy.
Detroit, quietly 4-2 seven weeks into the season, used a mix of creative offensive plays and suffocating defense en route to the win. The Lions trail the Packers by a game in the NFC North. They take on the division’s defending champion — the rival Bears — on Sunday. After scoring an NFL-record 34 fourth-quarter points against Chicago on September 30, the “revenge” element could play a factor.

ESPN NFL Power rankings are developed by ESPN NFL staff writers John Clayton, Len Pasquarelli, Matt Mosley, Jeffri Chadiha and Mike Sando; Scouts Inc. Insider Jeremy Green; and ESPN.com NFL senior editor Mike McAllister.
The ESPN NFL Staff moved the Lions up to 11th this week a rise of 4 spots from 15th in Week 7 NFL Power Rankings. They do not however hold any much hope that the Lions will be a playoff team in 2007.
The Lions have started 4-2 for the sixth time since the NFL expanded to a 16-game season in 1978. But in just two of the previous five times did the Lions make the playoffs.

Jonathon Comey moved the Lions all the way up to 12th in the Week 8 NFL Power Rankings, for an improvement of 9 places. He thinks the Bears will destroy them this week as they have the last 2 seasons in Chicago.

Pete Prisco gave the Lions a big jump all the way to 10th in the NFL Power Rankings this week, up from 14th in Week 7. He goes on to say that if the Playoffs started today the Lions would be in. Playoffs? Playoffs? are you kidding me? Playoffs? Pete just so you know: this Lion team is not currently a Playoff team. Looking at their schedule it is hard to imagine better than 2-6 over the next 8 games, but as always with the NFL you never know, and I certainly hope I am mistaken and they go 6-2.
Don’t look now, but they’re at 4-2 and if the playoffs started today they would be in. The defense seems to be playing better.

King continues to put the Lions in his Fine 15, placing them 13th this week up 2 spots from Week 7 Fine 15, though he is clearly not sold on the fact that they belong there. Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger thinks they will be out as soon as they lose a game based on this snippet from his story:
Jon Kitna has already been sacked 28 times. Detroit gave a weak offensive team, Tampa Bay, 422 yards on Sunday. There’s not a lot of great news except in the bottom line — Detroit has won two more than it’s lost, and we’re almost through October.
NFL Week 8 will bring the re-surging Chicago Bears with new QB Brian Griese to Soldier Field. An important game for both teams to win to keep pressure on the Pack.
Cast your vote in this weeks Poll.
Which Team will Prevail on Sunday October 28, 2007
