- Detroit Lions win 23-16 over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to move to 4-2
The Detroit Lions escaped Ford Field with a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 23-16. The Bucs assisted the Lions with the win by providing 2 crucial turnovers deep in the Lions territory. Detroit got its running game going yesterday much more than they have all season with 147 yards on the ground.
Kevin Jones made his first start of the season and had 76 yards on 15 carries. Jones added 34 yards with 6 pass receptions in his extended action. Tampa Bay dominated the time of possession and outgained Detroit 422 to 278. Coach Rod Marinelli like always feels this is one win and move on to the next game, had this to say:
“The biggest thing, honestly, for me, honestly, I want to get this franchise turned around,” Marinelli said. “And my focus is on that. And my focus is on this team. And we’ve just got to keep finding a way to win a game. And we still have to play better. We’ve got to play better, and when we get that done, I’ll be a happy man.”

Detroit moves to 4-2 and remains 1 game behind the NFC North front running Green Bay Packers. The Lions now get ready to go back out on the road to face the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field next Sunday for a division game. The matchup will go a long way towards determining how credible the Lions record is. As I said last week with the Lions it is a week to week adventure and we hope they win every week.
I know everyone is excited about a big win for the hometown Lions but Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger feels an obligation to inform you of the following.

Now I put this table here only for perspective. The point I am trying to make is the Lions two loses, both routs to the Eagles and Redskins, pale in comparison when you consider this:
The Lions future opponents the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants each beat both Washington and Philadelphia. Green Bay Packers also routed the New York Giants earlier in the season. Next weeks opponent the Chicago Bears beat both Green Bay and Philadelphia. Another future opponent the Arizona Cardinals barely lost to the Washington Redskins when they missed a long Field Goal as time ran out.
Just a little information for you when you are considering how good a team the Lions really are. Please check back tomorrow when I have the complete game recap with all the NFL stats associated with the game.
