  • Detroit Lions vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL Week 7

Really only a few news items coming out of Monday’s session with the Lions as they prepare for the Buccaneers.

  • Tatum Bell and his trade request

Coach Rod Marinelli was asked about the trade request:

“That was his agent talking,” Marinelli said. “Right now, we’re keeping him.”

Bell had this to say on Monday when asked:

“I was just a little disappointed that I didn’t get to play the second half,” Bell said. “Other than that, I’m going to just keep my head up. When I get in, I just have to make plays.
“I’m expecting to play, start, just like usual. I know we’re going to rotate. I really don’t know the rotation. I’m ready. I want the ball. It’s the bottom line.”

“We run the ball all throughout the week (in practice). We get into games, for some reason we don’t run it. It’s frustrating for all the backs, not just me. We feel the same way.

“When coach calls the plays, we’ve got to execute the plays. The system works. It’s been working.”

  • Chris Cooley and his suggestion the Lions Quit in the 2nd half of the Redskins victory

Here is a quote attributed to Cooley from last week’s story:

“They were dead by the second half, “It seemed like they didn’t care what happened.”

Coach Marinelli had this to say when asked on Monday:

“I commented after our game. I gave great respect to that team, great respect to coach (Joe ) Gibbs . He had the team really wired in, well prepared, and they beat us. I took my hat off to them Sunday night and Monday. They won, and I congratulated them. We didn’t particularly tackle well that game. That game is over, two weeks ago.”

  • Detroit did not work on a gameplan for Tampa Bay, that will begin on Wednesday as the Lions get back into the NFL work week routine.

“We just worked against ourselves,” Marinelli said. “After a layoff, the first thing, you’ve got to get yourself rewired in.”
