  • NFL Power Rankings for Week 6 The Detroit Lions had the bottom fall out of their NFL Power Rankings by the entities that do the Weekly NFL Power Rankings. Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger is providing this NFL Power Rankings post as a regular weekly feature during the NFL Regular Season. I am using the same 5 NFL Power Rankings sites each week. The 5 are:
  1. Fox Sports NFL Power Rankings
  2. ESPN NFL Power Rankings

  4. CBS Sportsline Power Rankings

Peter Schrager dropped the Lions 8 spots to 19th this week from week 5 NFL Power Rankings. Schrager indicated that the Mike Martz offense was dismantled and the defensive backfield continued to struggle.

Entering Sunday’s bout with the Redskins, the Lions had the No. 1 passing offense in the NFL. The Mike Martz Show took a bit of a hit in Washington, though, as the Lions were outgained by a 2-1 margin, and failed to reach the end zone in a brutal 34-3 loss. Detroit had been averaging 28.5 points and 387.3 yards per game over the first four weeks of the season. The Lions only gained 149 yards against Washington. The defensive backfield struggled yet again, as Jason Campbell had a career day by completing 23-of-29 for 248 yards and two touchdowns. The Lions enter their bye week at 3-2, with both of their losses coming at the hands of teams from the NFC East.

ESPN NFL Power rankings are developed by ESPN NFL staff writers John Clayton, Len Pasquarelli, Matt Mosley, Jeffri Chadiha and Mike Sando; Scouts Inc. Insider Jeremy Green; and ESPN.com NFL senior editor Mike McAllister.

The ESPN NFL Staff has the Lions down to 18th this week a fall of 8 spots from 12th in Week 5 NFL Power Rankings. They ripped Mike Martz and the Lions lack of offense in the last 10 quarters of play.

Take away the fourth-quarter, 34-point explosion against the Bears, and this much-ballyhooed Lions offense has been held out of the end zone in its last 10 quarters. But hey, it can’t be Mike Martz’s fault. After all, he’s an offensive genius.

Jonathon Comey moved the Lions down to 19th, a fall of 8 spots, in Week 6 NFL Power Rankings. He talked about how the two Lion loses were by 35 and 31 points.

Pete Prisco felt the Lions deserved no more than 17th in the NFL Power Rankings a free fall from 10th last week in Week 5.

One step forward, two steps back. That’s the Lions. Can they get any consistency?

Peter dropped the Lions out of his Fine 15 and don’t look for them to return any time soon based on this quote from the MMBQ:

The Lions are frauds

If things aren’t bad enough for Lions fans, he took a shot at ex-Lion QB Joey Harrington:

Bobby Petrino is really smart and does some bright things (like weird reverses on fake punts), but he’s having a very hard time making up for bad quarterbacking.

Joey Harrington was as bad in Nashville as Joey Harrington could be, throwing it so far behind Michael Jenkins that safety Vincent Fuller could grab the tipped interception and run it in for a touchdown.

Detroit is off during NFL Week 6 with a their bye week. They plan to rest for a day of two and get some injuries treated and then back to work to correct the issues they are having. NFL Week 7 will bring the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with ex-Lion QB Jeff Garcia to Ford Field. An important game for both teams if either have playoff aspirations. Cast your vote in this weeks Poll.
