Detroit Lions make the trip to the Nation’s Capital to take on the Washington Redskins on Sunday. The Lions have not fared very well in D.C. over the years. Their record is 0-20 since the 1st visit in 1939. The record includes 3 playoff games that all were easy victories for the ‘Skins. Washington won 31-7 on January 8th, 1983 in a first round NFL Playoff game. On January 12th, 1992 the Redskins destroyed the Lions in the NFC Championship game 41-10 and in the last playoff meeting, a 1999 Wild Card game, Washington jumped to a 27-0 Halftime lead on the way to a 27-13 victory. Overall the Series stands at 25-10 in favor of the Redskins.
Including the NFL postseason games between the two franchises, 12 of the last 16 games have been played in Washington. Detroit broke a 16 game losing streak during the 1999 season with a 33-17 win over the Redskins at the Lions previous home the Pontiac Silverdome.
Washington is coming off a bye week and before that a loss to the New York Giants 27-14. Detroit, last Sunday, scored an NFL record 34 fourth quarter points to beat the Chicago Bears 37-27. Washington signed WR Keenan McCardell on Monday as the Redskins brass is uncertain as to the availability of WR Santana Moss for this weekend.

Hi Michael,
Finally got a chance to visit your blog. Lions beating the Redskins in DC is really a tough sell. Like what you said, history is not on the Lion’s side. But Lions fans know that this team is finally showing some sign of life. A win would be great but a close loss would be acceptable. Plus I don’t think the Redskins will be wearing any “funky” uniforms like the Eagles did a couple of weeks ago against the Lions. I still think the debacle in Philly was partly because the Lions were distracted by those awful uniforms.
Ted, thanks for the comment. Like always I hope the Lions win, but I don’t think they will. 0-20 in Washington 0-9 against a Gibbs coached team. Plus add that the Lions are talking too much about how good they are. To me it all adds up to another road loss this week.
