- NFL Power Rankings for Week 5 The Detroit Lions made progress back up the NFL Power Rankings by the entities that do the Weekly NFL Power Rankings. Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger is providing this NFL Power Rankings post as a regular weekly feature during the NFL Regular Season. I am using the same 5 NFL Power Rankings sites each week. The 5 are:
- Fox Sports NFL Power Rankings
- ESPN NFL Power Rankings
- Cold Hard Football Facts NFL Power Rankings
- CBS Sportsline Power Rankings

Peter Schrager moved the Lions up to 11th this week having them rise 11 places from week 4 NFL Power Rankings. Peter waxed on about how good the Lions offense is and how it set a NFL record for most points in the 4th quarter to beat the Chicago Bears.
The high-flying Lions offense looked asleep for the greater part of three quarters of action on Sunday against the defending conference champion Bears. Then the unit woke up just in time. And boy, did it ever wake up. The Lions put up a league-record 34 fourth-quarter points and shocked Chicago with a 37-27 comeback win. Detroit is now 3-1 for the first time since 2004, and has already matched last year’s win total. Jon Kitna predicted the Lions would win 10 games back in March, and the talking heads and pundits had a field day. A month into the season, they’re already 30 percent of the way there. Who’s laughing now?

ESPN NFL Power rankings are developed by ESPN NFL staff writers John Clayton, Len Pasquarelli, Matt Mosley, Jeffri Chadiha and Mike Sando; Scouts Inc. Insider Jeremy Green; and ESPN.com NFL senior editor Mike McAllister.
The ESPN NFL Staff raised the Lions up to 12th this week up 8 spots from 20th in Week 4 NFL Power Rankings. They had a little dig for coach Rod Marinelli:
Is head coach Rod Marinelli letting the 3-1 start get to his head? He told the Detroit Free Press that his Lions are on their way to being “an elite team.” Might want to play another elite team first — the Lions’ first four opponents are a combined 5-11.

Jonathon Comey moved the Lions all the way up to a spot in his dominant dozen with the Lions at 11th up 8 spots in Week 5 NFL Power Rankings. He had some funny comments about the ‘Arena League Like 4th Quarter’ against the Bears. He projects Kitna’s stats over a full season. 32 TDs, 16 Int’s 72 sacks and 20 fumbles. He doesn’t hold out much hope for the Lions this week at Washington.

Pete Prisco brought the Lions up to 10th in the NFL Power Rankings from 19th last week in Week 4.
After getting embarrassed by the Eagles, that was a nice turnaround for the Lions defense against the Bears. At 3-1, they are off to a good start.

Peter put the Lions back in his Fine 15, moving Detroit in at 12th. If the Lions can upset the Redskins on Sunday they might be able to have some staying power in the Fine 15.
The weeks opponent, the Washington Redskins, coming off a bye week are well represented in the Week 5 NFL Power Rankings as well. They range anywhere from 13th to 16th in the Week 5 NFL Power Rankings.
Detroit had an off day on Tuesday and will start preparing for the Redskins with practice Wednesday at their Allen Park training facility.
