  • NFL Power Rankings for Week 3

The 1st Place Detroit Lions are moving up the NFL Power Rankings by the entities that do the Weekly NFL Power Rankings. Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger has determined to make this a regular weekly feature during the NFL Regular Season. I will use the same 5 NFL Power Rankings sites each week. The 5 are:

  1. Fox Sports NFL Power Rankings
  2. ESPN NFL Power Rankings
  3. Cold Hard Football Facts NFL Power Rankings
  4. CBS Sportsline Power Rankings
  5. Peter King Monday Morning QB - SI

Peter Schrager moved the Lions up to 19th this week a movement of 7 places from week 2 NFL Power Rankings. He had some things to say about the Jon Kitna ‘10 wins’ predictions.

Jon Kitna predicted a 10-win season back in July. America responded with laughter and ridicule. Well, two weeks into the 2007 season, Kitna and the Lions are 20 percent of the way there. The Lions won their second straight thriller on Sunday, with Kitna returning from a second quarter injury to lead Detroit to a gutsy 20-17 overtime win. The passing game exploded, going for 359 yards, including 245 of them from Kitna. Mike Martz’s offense is clicking and the defense is holding its own. Maybe 10 wins wasn’t so absurd after all.

ESPN NFL Power rankings are developed by ESPN NFL staff writers John Clayton, Len Pasquarelli, Matt Mosley, Jeffri Chadiha and Mike Sando; Scouts Inc. Insider Jeremy Green; and ESPN.com NFL senior editor Mike McAllister.

The ESPN NFL Staff moved the Lions to 18th this week up from 21st last week. They really had nothing of note to say regarding the Lions in the NFL Power Rankings this week. Just a shot at something that injured backup QB Dan Orlovsky had to say about Jon Kitna’s Quarterbacking ability.

Jonathon Comey moved the Lions up 10 spots from 23rd last week to 13th in Week 3 NFL Power Rankings. He had a shout out for Shaun McDonald being the leading receiver on the Lions amongst all those #1 Draft Picks the Lions have at Wide Receiver.

Pete Prisco had the Lions with a big jump this week in the NFL Power Rankings from 22nd last week to 13th in Week 3.

Maybe Jon Kitna was right. Maybe the Lions can win 11 games. But they haven’t exactly faced two high-powered offenses in their first two games.

Last week Peter had the Lions 15th and said that it might be the only time the Lions were in the Monday Morning QB Fine 15. Well it is 2 weeks in a row in the Monday Morning QBs Fine 15 with the Lions moving up to 13th. King had some fine words for Jon Kitna.

Does any player enjoy his second life in football more than Jon Kitna? Doesn’t look like it to me. He is overjoyed out there.

This week’s opponent the Philadelphia Eagles continued their downward trend in the NFL Power Rankings this week. Most of the NFL Power Rankings have the Eagles down 8 to 10 spots from week 2, with the Eagles ranging from the high teens to mid twenties.

After having Tuesday off both the Eagles and Lions return to practice on Wednesday to start preparing for their matchup Sunday September 23, 2007 @ 1:00pm at Lincoln Financial Field

Who do you think will win the Matchup in Philly on Sunday? Vote in the Detroit Lions poll.

Have these analysts lost their mind? Lions are improving, but come on. Minnesota was about as offensively inept as a pro team can get.

James, I just am thankful they are not 32nd like they were a few times last season. I hope they keep moving up.

The Lions are much improved this year. If Kitna didn’t go out in the 2nd quarter, the game wouldn’t have been close.

Look for the Lions to come up big in Philly.

    Lions will be 3-0

Lions_Time, thanks for the comment. I agree in that they should have won by 3 touchdowns. In fact I posted that on Monday in my attempt at humor with the crossouts blog. I hope they can win in Philly but they haven’t been 3-0 since 1980. I agree with you they are much improved. I think Marinelli has got the players trusting him and his ways. We will know better at the bye week if they are a good team.
