  • NFL Week 2 Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings Recap

Hopefully you were able to see yesterday’s post and share my happiness that the Lions have started the 2007 NFL Season with a 2 wins and 0 loses record.  The poll that I ran all week ended up with 46 votes, 24 for Minnesota and 22 for Detroit. Close just like the game.

Jon Kitna came offJon Kitna vs Vikings the bench with about 5 minutes left in the 4th Quarter, after being cleared by team medical personnel to play after being ‘knocked woozy’ in the 2nd Quarter just before connecting on a 9 yard TD pass to Roy Williams. He led 3 drives for the Lions deep into Viking territory. The 1st drive ended when Roy Williams fumbled after catching a pass down to the Viking 15 yard line. The 2nd drive ended with a missed 48 yard Field Goal with 45 seconds left in regulation. The 3rd drive ended with a successful game winning 37 yard Field Goal by Jason Hanson. Jason Hanson During that drive Kitna caught his own deflected pass and made a nifty 9 yard run. He also made a 6 yard run on 3rd and 2 to get a 1st down at the Viking 36. The next play was a 17 yard run by Brian Calhoun to the Viking 19 to setup the Kick. The game was not a well played game. Each team had 5 turnovers. The Vikings had 12 penalties for 96 yards and the Lions chipped in with 7 for 44 yards. The Vikings returned 1 of the Lions turnovers to the End zone for 7 points. The Lions defense seem to play with a toughness not seen around Detroit for a number of years. The 10 points that the Vikings offense scored were setup by long kickoff returns into Lion territory. The touchdown only happened because a pass was ruled complete on 3rd down that clearly bounced on the turf and should have resulted in a Vikings punt.
