NFL Power Rankings for Week 2
The Detroit Lions after a very rare, during the Matt Millen era, road victory 36-21 over the Oakland Raiders Week 1 probably should expect to move up the NFL Power Rankings. Your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger went out and reviewed some of the organizations that keep weekly NFL Power Rankings throughout the season. In an earlier post I reported on Week 1 Power Rankings for the Lions by the same entities.

Peter Schrager dropped the Lions 2 spots from the Week 1 Power Rankings to 26th.
Year two of the Mike Martz era started off with some offensive fireworks in Oakland on Sunday. The Lions offense tallied 392 yards, put 36 points on the scoreboard, and moved only nine games within Jon Kitna’s off-season prediction of 10 victories. Detroit’s defense held its own, despite a mid-game, 17-point lapse. Just how good is that Lions offense? We should have a better idea after Sunday.

Power rankings are developed by ESPN NFL staff writers John Clayton, Len Pasquarelli, Matt Mosley, Jeffri Chadiha and Mike Sando; Scouts Inc. Insider Jeremy Green; and ESPN.com NFL senior editor Mike McAllister.
High water mark for the Lions on Week 2 NFL Power Rankings here with a 21st spot in the ESPN Power Rankings. Here is what the ESPN Ranking experts had to say about the Lions:
There are a lot of offensive weapons in Detroit and in spurts, the Lions should be fun to watch. Rookie WR Calvin Johnson caught a TD pass in his first NFL game.

I have replaced the MSNBC Power Rankings spot in this blog with the Cold Hard Football Facts Power Rankings because MSNBC used these rankings on their site. The Lions moved up 4 spots to 23rd on these Power Rankings in Week 2.

Big jump of 8 spots for the Lions to 22nd in the Week 2 NFL Power Rankings on Pete Prisco’s view.
The offense is going to be fun to watch. That’s a nice road victory to start the season. Jon Kitna lit up the Raiders.

Peter had the Lions as part of his weekly ‘Fine Fifteen’ on Monday morning.
Might be the last time they’ll be in this weekly grouping of teams all year.
One thing your ‘Lion Eyes’ blogger noticed is that the Lions Week 2 opponent the Minnesota Vikings also made significant movement up the Power Rankings this week. After an off day on Tuesday the teams hit the practice facility in ernest today to start preparing for the game on Sunday @ Ford Field at 4:05 pm.

Should be a classic North division matchup. The inexperienced Vike QB vs the play in spurts Lion D. The air show Lion offense against the you can’t score on the ground Vike D. Oddly, it seems to favor the Lions.
Forgot to mention, like the layout of the Power rankings being compared to the previous week. Would like to see this as a regular feature.
It is hard to do a Lions rant win they win!
